Russia attacks Ukraine’s largest children’s hospital

Today, Ukraine faces a terrible tragedy as Russian forces attacked many cities. This morning’s attack killed 31 people and injured many others. One of the worst-hit places was the Ohmatdyt Children’s Hospital in Kyiv, Ukraine’s largest hospital for children.

The Attack on Ohmatdyt

Missiles hit the children’s hospital, causing severe damage and loss of life. Seventeen people died in Kyiv, including two children at the hospital. The hospital is now 60-70% destroyed, and many critically ill children have been displaced.

In the hospital’s main building, windows and doors were blown out, walls were blackened, and blood spattered the floors. The intensive care unit, operating rooms, and cancer departments were all damaged. Medical staff and local volunteers formed lines, passing bricks and debris to each other in a desperate effort to rescue those trapped.

The tragedy did not stop in Kyiv. Ten people were killed in Kryvyi Rih, President Volodymyr Zelensky’s hometown, three more in Pokrovsk, and one in Dnipro. Residential buildings, infrastructure, and medical facilities across many cities were damaged by over 40 missiles.

Despite the chaos, Ukrainians remain strong. Medical staff, first responders, and ordinary citizens are working hard to rescue those trapped under the rubble. Kyiv’s mayor, Vitaliy Klitschko, called the bombardment “one of the worst attacks” since the war began. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported additional casualties at a separate maternity unit in Kyiv, showing the indiscriminate nature of the attack.
